You’ll find lots of great places to explore in the surrounding countryside around Thoresby Hall Warner Leisure Hotels, close by is the Crich Tramway Museum Matlock, a great place to vist.
We always love to visit Thoresby and this time they outdid themselves with the entertainers in January. The Warner's team were top notch as usual and we didn't miss the dancers as the vocalists were so good.
I'd forgotten just how entertaining the 'old style' entertainers used to be. We'd missed the variety shows. One night we had Donimo (not Domino) a Mime artist who was hilarious. Not your usual Mime artist either. The Rod Stewart lookalike who wasn't quite as popular. However, Gareth Oliver the ventriloquist was unbelievably funny. Everyone was talking about him next morning at breakfast. You had to be there.
In between we watched a fascinating film called 'Hidden Figures' about the early attempts to get a man in space, and there were plenty of other films to choose from.
The Hidden Garden was closed for the winter but it will be open in April. If you haven't seen inside, give it a go.
We discovered more walks around the Thoresby estate this time too.
The builders were in upgrading several rooms but didn't cause any problems for us.
We'll be back again.
What a way to spend the weekend.
As hard as you might try it is just impossible to think of any negative comments for a break at Thoresby Hall.
Check in at the gate, issued with your keys and instruction on how to get to your room, no queuing at reception.
Open a charge account and just sign when checking out (if you agree with everything)....and it was spot on.
The meals are of the standard of a top class restaurant with self service buffet or order and served to your table.
The facilities and activities are really good and never overcrowded (including the Spa on a Sunday afternoon!).
The entertainment was varied (Friday excellent comedian singer, Saturday BeeGees tribute and best of all Sunday 'the entertainment team' with Magic a tribute to Queen, everyone a great singer and a standing ovation at the end.
What a show they put on it will live long in our memory, as good as West end!
But best of all is the staff, everyone polite, friendly and helpful.
We may have been lucky but our waiter 'Will' who we renamed 'no problem' as that was his answer to every request.
In summary a great, great weekend and extremely good value for money.
